New advisory council to strengthen Canberra as a welcoming multicultural community

Released 25/07/2017

Expressions of interest will soon be sought for appointments to a new advisory council that will enhance the ACT’s position as Australia’s most successful multicultural community.

We will be accepting nominations for the Multicultural Advisory Council from 28 February 2017, making another proud milestone for cultural diversity in the ACT.

This Council will provide advice to the ACT Government on how we can ensure Canberra continues to pave the way as Australia’s multicultural leader by addressing issues that affect culturally and linguistically diverse communities.

The Council will also assist with the implementation of the ACT Multicultural Framework 2015-2020, and help to organise a multicultural summit in 2018.

Individuals who represent or who have worked extensively with culturally and linguistically diverse communities are encouraged to apply.

We have many people here in the ACT with a wealth of experience in supporting multiculturalism and helping communities grow. It is essential for us draw on their knowledge as we continue to set an example for the rest of the country in how culturally and linguistically diverse communities can flourish.

The Council will have a term of three years and its first meeting will be in late June 2017.  Expressions of interest will be advertised from 28February. Please visit www.communityservices.act.gov.au for more information.
