Middle Years Forum focused on wellbeing for 8 to 12 year olds

Released 15/11/2017

Families ACT today hosted its second Middle Years Forum, focusing on the emotional, physical and psychological development of children aged 8 to 12.

The middle years of 8 to 12 years represent a unique and important period for young people characterised by rapid physical and mental development. The ACT Government is committed to incorporating policy and programs that support and promote the wellbeing of children through this period for the benefit of the whole ACT community.

That’s why we have supported Families ACT to run this two-part forum series bringing together experts from the research, medical, education and community sectors to present the most up-to-date best practice information and share their own knowledge and experience.

Today’s informative speakers included:

  • Associate Professor Sharon Bessell, Crawford School of Public Policy
  • Dr Sue Packer OAM, Community Paediatrician
  • Alasdair Roy OAM, Consultant Psychologist and former ACT Children and Young People Commissioner
  • Dr Tim Moore, Institute of Child Protection Studies.

The ACT Government remains committed to working with experts from all fields and the broader community sector to build stronger collaboration across services that support children, young people and families.

Further information on the forum can be found on the Families ACT website www.familiesact.org.au
