Joint media release: Gordon Ramsay MLA and Rachel Stephen-Smith MLA

The 2017 National Multicultural Festival has teamed up with Canberra Museum and Gallery to provide a space for children to enjoy the event.

Minister for Disability, Children and Youth, Rachel Stephen-Smith, said the Children’s Sanctuary would enable younger children to continue enjoying the Festival in a dedicated space.

“The Children’s Sanctuary is a new initiative that will make the Festival an even better experience for younger visitors and their families,” Minister Stephen-Smith said.

“On Saturday, we have a program that has been developed by the ACT Community Language Schools Association while Sunday’s programming has been developed by the team at the ACT Government West Belconnen Child and Family Centre.

“Both days will have a combination of cultural performances, art and craft and great hands-on activities.”

Minister for the Arts and Community Events, Gordon Ramsay, noted that the Canberra Museum and Gallery was in the heart of the Festival and would be at the centre of the fun.

“Across the two days, the café will be open and facilities for children and their carers will include complimentary water bottles and a space for breast-feeding,” Mr Ramsay said. “

“All the events are free of charge and this is a great example of the ACT Government working with the community to put on an event that ensures children can enjoy all the fun of the Festival.”
