Champions of multicultural Canberra take home awards

Congratulations to the nine outstanding individuals and businesses acknowledged in the annual ACT Multicultural Awards. The awards focus on the great work that happens every day in support of multiculturalism, reflecting our community’s respect for cultural diversity.

The awards recognise the outstanding contribution made by people and organisations who promote and strengthen our multicultural community.

This year’s recipients are:

  • Multicultural Person of the Year – Mustafa Ehsan
  • Multicultural Advocate of the Year – Chin Wong and Ziaul Hoque
  • Outstanding Volunteer of the Year Award –  Dr Krishna Nadimpalli and Diana Rahman OAM
  • Media Award – Victor Hugo Marillanca JP
  • Education Award – The Polish School of Canberra
  • Business Enterprise Award – STAR AM 1323 Canberra
  • Community Organisation Award - Multicultural Employment Services

Multicultural Person of the Year, Mustafa Ehsan champions the values of multiculturalism through the Canberra Kangaroo Football team for young Afghan refugees and asylum seekers. Mustafa established the team and has coached, managed and captained since 2012. The current Young Canberra Citizen of the Year, Mustafa is a great role model for young people and has forged strong social engagement and intercultural harmony in the ACT.

All award recipients invest enormous effort and commitment in the true spirit of multiculturalism and should be truly proud of their efforts. Their generosity and willingness to promote cultural diversity and community harmony deserves high praise. Congratulations to all.
