Applications open for 2017-18 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander grants

The ACT Government’s 2017-18 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Grants Programs opens today with a total of $200,000 available to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and community  organisations to promote culture, further study and leadership.

In recognition of these three areas of focus, this grants initiative has three distinct programs: culture; scholarship and leadership.

Under the Cultural program individuals may apply for up to $3,000 and organisations up to $5,000 to assist in a program or event that will promote wider understanding of the cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples living in the ACT.

Under the Scholarship program individuals may apply for up to $5,000 to undertake study and training to develop their skills and enhance their employment prospects.

Under the Leadership program individuals may apply for up to $3,000 and community organisations operating in the ACT may apply for up to $10,000 to undertake learning activities that enhance leadership skills and abilities.  This supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Canberrans to lead in their careers and on behalf of their communities.

The grants programs are another example of the ACT Government’s commitment to the ACT Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Agreement 2015-18.

By working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders in sharing their cultures and to improve leadership and educational outcomes we share a positive vision for the future of our community as a whole.

Applications close at 12pm, Monday 6 November.
