$1.27 million boost for local disability workforce capacity

Released 25/07/2017

$1.27 million will be provided to National Disability Services (NDS) to further build the capacity of Canberra’s disability sector workforce.

The ACT Government is committed to support the ongoing development of a strong local specialist workforce as part of our commitment to the NDIS.

Projections show that the ACT will need 500 new disability specialist workers each year until 2018.

As individuals are able to exercise greater control of the support they receive, it is appropriate that the work-force grows to meet those needs.

To progress this, NDS was selected as part of an open tender process due to their strong experience in work-force and sector development.

Work is about to begin with National Disability Services and the Community Services Directorate to deliver this program.

The funding has been made available through the Commonwealth NDIS Sector Development Fund.

The ACT Government provides a wide range of resources to support all people with a disability as we transi-tioned to the NDIS, this has included grants and workshops.
