CIT apprentice chefs shine this National Skills Week

Released 29/08/2018

CIT is partnering with the CIT Student Association to make meals count this National Skills Week, with students honing their culinary skills to support Aussie farmers with a Parma for a Farmer initiative in the Apprentice Kitchen Café.

In visiting CIT Reid today, Minister for Vocational Education and Skills Meegan Fitzharris said Parma for a Farmer is a great example of students putting their skills to the test to support a great cause.

“I am proud to say this National Skills Week that more employers and students trust CIT for their training than any other organisation in the ACT,” Minister Fitzharris said.

“The ACT Government’s efforts to diversify the economy and grow stronger local industries helped create almost 10,000 new jobs in Canberra last year. We are committed to investing in delivering quality VET to ensure we meet the skills needs in our economy and the demands of tomorrow’s workforce.”

“Award-winning local and international teaching staff are giving students the specialist skills and knowledge they need to make their career dreams come true in a range of fields at CIT.

“In the CIT Restaurant and in kitchens all over Canberra, CIT Culinary courses are preparing aspiring chefs, pastry cooks, bakers, butchers and caterers.

“In partnership with industry, CIT offers scholarship opportunities for work experience internationally and a recent CIT graduate has even become part of the team at Heston Blumenthal’s famous Fat Duck restaurant in the UK.

“The possibilities are endless with great skills like this, and I’d urge anyone considering their future, or a career change, to look at what’s on offer at CIT,” said Minister Fitzharris.
