Nominations for the 2018 ACT Training Awards are now open, with 14 categories set to recognise outstanding individuals and organisations in Canberra’s vocational education and training sector.
“Vocational education and training makes an incredible contribution to the lives of individuals and our economy as a whole, and the sector in the ACT has a lot to be proud of,” said Minister for Higher Education, Training and Research Meegan Fitzharris.
“A recent Productivity Commission report shows ACT vocational education and training graduates are leading the country in finding employment and getting into further study, which is a real testament to all those working in the local sector,” Minister Fitzharris said.
“Last year’s ACT Training Awards saw a jump in nominations from employers, teachers and trainers, as well as from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. In 2018 we are calling on even more individual apprentices and trainees to put in a nomination and share their stories to receive well-deserved recognition for their achievements within their industry.
“I encourage local business owners who employ an apprentice, trainee or someone undertaking a VET qualification to support them to apply.”
Individual award winners from the 2018 ACT Training Awards will go on to represent the ACT as finalists at the Australian Training Awards in Sydney later this year.
“The ACT Government is committed to delivering quality VET to ensure we meet the skills needs in our economy and the demands of the future job market,” Minister Fitzharris said.
“The ACT Training Awards are also an opportunity for local providers to gain national recognition as an employer or registered training organisation of choice.”
