Terms of Reference for system-wide ACT Health data review announced

Released 28/03/2017

The Terms of Reference for ACT Health’s system-wide review of data and reporting were tabled in the Legislative Assembly today, which is the next step forward to ensure ACT Health’s data management and quality assurance processes are robust and accurate.

Minister for Health Meegan Fitzharris said that a Review Panel was being established to oversee the system-wide review, which would meet regularly and be responsible for providing regular updates on the progress of the work.

“Since I announced the system-wide review last month, I have written to key health stakeholders about the review and today I have tabled the Terms of Reference for the review, which will be undertaken in a timely, transparent and effective manner,” Minister Fitzharris said.

“A Review Panel will oversee this work and will consist of the ACT Health Chief Information Officer, the ACT Health Chief of Clinical Operations, the Shared Services ICT Chief Technology Officer, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Funding Body and the Senior Executive, Hospitals, Resourcing and Classifications Group from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare.

“The Panel will provide a balance of advice and oversight from internal and external experts.”

Minister Fitzharris said that that the delivery of high quality health services to the Canberra community was the ACT Government’s number one priority.

“It is important to note that these data reporting issues are administrative in nature and do not affect the quality of the health services that we deliver to the community.

“This review will take us back to basics when it comes to the collection, analysis and reporting of our health data.

“As Health Minister I want to ensure that we not only have a high quality health system that Canberrans trust, but also that we have the right data available to us to monitor and track our performance.”

The system-wide review of the data and reporting will be complete by 31 March 2018, with the first phase expected to be finalised by 30 June 2017.
