Subsidised VET training places now open to help meet skills needs in Canberra

Over 2,900 subsidised places in across a range of vocational education and training (VET) qualifications opened for enrolment today to help address skills needs in a range of industries and professions.

Enrolments for the more than 70 qualifications opened at 9.00am today (15 February 2017) under the ACT Government’s Skilled Capital training initiative.

“Skilled Capital offers an opportunity for the ACT community to access quality training and fill critical skills needs areas across a range of industries. This year’s release shows the positive growth of the initiative and its role in supporting the ACT economy,” Minister for Higher Education, Training and Research Meegan Fitzharris said.

“This is the fifth release of Skilled Capital training places since enrolments first opened in February 2015. The 2017 release includes qualifications across industries such as community services, information technology, health and construction.

“Skilled Capital has improved access to training for all Canberrans. The initiative provides additional funding for work experience placements as well as wrap-around services such as mentoring, career advice and additional tutoring.

“The ongoing success of Skilled Capital reflects the strong VET sector in the ACT, and its contribution to the economic and social prosperity of our city,” Minister Fitzharris concluded.
