Canberra’s health care system now provides even greater choice for patients, with the opening of the new Calvary Private Hospital in Bruce today.
Minister for Health and Wellbeing, Meegan Fitzharris joined National Chair of The Little Company of Mary, the Hon John Watkins AM to officially open the new Calvary Private Hospital.
The Minister said the construction of the $77 million facility is a significant private health care development in our community.
“For more than 30 years, Calvary Private Hospital has provided acute medical and surgical services within two floors of the Calvary Public Hospital,” Minister Fitzharris said.
“The newly constructed $77 million Calvary Private Hospital facility, now located adjacent to the Calvary Public Hospital, will offer people an additional, high quality private health care option that will further support our world-class health system in the ACT.
“Featuring state-of-the art digitally integrated operating theatres that will accommodate day surgery procedures through to complex surgeries, this new facility also provides medical and surgical wards, a coronary care high dependency unit, a postnatal unit and a medical imaging suite.
“The new private hospital will provide 74 surgical and medical private rooms, a maternity suite, a critical care department, a post anesthetic unit, as well as 118 inpatient beds, with an inbuilt further capacity to expand to 182 inpatient beds in years to come.
“The new Calvary Private Hospital will offer modern health care facilities and supports efforts to sustain the provision of high quality health care in the ACT,” Minister Fitzharris said.
At the official opening Minister Fitzharris also acknowledged John Watkins, The Little Company of Mary, and Calvary Hospital Executive for their dedication and leadership of this major infrastructure project.
