Joint media release: Meegan Fitzharris MLA and Shane Rattenbury MLA

Minister for Health Meegan Fitzharris and Minister for Mental Health Shane Rattenbury today revealed the designs for the University of Canberra Public Hospital (UCPH) façade as the project nears completion.

The $212 million hospital will help strengthen the ACT’s health system by providing dedicated rehabilitation services for both physical and mental health. The new hospital will help alleviate pressure on the current health system and free up more resources at other hospitals in the territory.

The design of UCPH has been inspired by Canberra’s landscape, with the Brindabellas incorporated into the rolling design, with colours reflecting the landscape.

“The Government is embarking on a ten year health plan that will ensure we are providing the very best health services to Canberrans. UCPH is a crucial part of the record investment the government has made in our health system over the past few years,” Minister Fitzharris said.

The design of the purpose-built, state-of-the-art rehabilitation hospital will be the first rehabilitation hospital to focus on both physical and mental health.

““It’s important that we provide a range of mental health services that will assist members of our community throughout their journey towards improved mental health,” Minister Rattenbury said. “Importantly, UPCH will provide dedicated support for those in our community who might benefit from ongoing mental health services, and whose needs are no longer acute.”

The Canberra community will benefit from dedicated services and support for people recovering from an injury, surgery or mental health condition.

UCPH is set to open in mid-2018.
