Construction starts on Wanniassa’s Park & Ride facility

Released 07/04/2017

Work has begun on the ACT’s newest Park & Ride facility in Wanniassa, making it easier for Tuggeranong residents to use different modes of transport to move around Canberra.

The new $1.5 million Park & Ride is being constructed next to the Wanniassa Group Centre near the corner of Langdon Avenue and Rylah Crescent.

“This community resource will make it easier for people to walk and cycle, get some daily exercise, and catch public transport,” Minister for Transport and City Services, Meegan Fitzharris said.

“Park & Rides are popular facilities around Canberra and help people design a journey their needs, and allows them to mix car and bus use with walking and cycling.”

The Wanniassa Park & Ride will feature 60 parking spaces, 16 bike racks, two new bus stops with large shelters and improved path connections.

It is in a great location, with bus stops are located on the high frequency Blue Rapid route, with regular weekday services travelling to Tuggeranong, Woden, the City, and Belconnen.

“Pedestrian safety will be improved in the area with new footpaths to connect the Park & Ride with the new bus stops and existing path network,” Minister Fitzharris said.

“A signalised pedestrian crossing just south of Langdon Avenue will also be constructed to provide easy and safe access to the bus stop facilities.

“The Wanniassa Park & Ride is expected to be open to the public in late 2017 and will become the 19th Park & Ride in the ACT, supporting other Tuggeranong facilities including the Chisholm, Calwell, Kambah and Tuggeranong park and rides.”
