Bike Stops turn wheels to link Canberra businesses with cyclists

Released 02/08/2017

The ACT Government will join local businesses this spring to launch new innovative ‘Bike Stops’ across Canberra.

Bike Stops will allow cyclists to use participating businesses’ facilities to change, refresh or store their gear.

Minister for Transport and City Services, Meegan Fitzharris today called on local businesses to register for the Bike Stop program.

“This is an exciting opportunity for small businesses to attract more attention from Canberra’s ever-growing cycling community,” Minister Fitzharris said.

“The types of facilities provided by each business will vary, but might include access to toilets, showers and change rooms, bag storage, water refill stations and tyre pumps.

“This program is a win for both cyclists and cycling groups, particularly those from out of town without a regular base.

“It’s also a win for small businesses, which overnight will become an attractive place for cyclists to stop and rest after finishing their journey.”
