Community invited to drop in sessions on Gungahlin roadworks

Released 15/03/2016

With a range of roadworks currently underway around Gungahlin, residents are invited to attend drop-in information sessions to find out more about these important road projects.

Minister for Transport and Municipal Services Meegan Fitzharris said there were a number of roads currently being upgraded, and the drop in sessions would answer any questions residents might have.

“In the last few months a number of road projects have started around Gungahlin. The Gungahlin Drive upgrade, Barton Highway roundabout improvements and Horse Park Drive duplication are all now underway. Work has also begun on Gundaroo Drive, and the Manning Clark Crescent and The Valley Avenue extension project.

“In addition there has been resealing work going on. All these works are vital to ensure our region’s roads and transport network can cope with recent growth and to help us plan for the future.

“If you have any questions about these works and how it will improve traffic movements, I’d encourage you to come along to one of the sessions and have a chat with me and our staff. We will also be able to answer any questions on ACTION bus services, the light rail project, and how we plan to better integrate public transport with the establishment of Transport Canberra on 1 July.

“As a long term resident of Gungahlin I have advocated strongly – and successfully – for upgrades to our road network. I thank residents for their patience while this work is underway, as a fellow resident I understand the disruption,” said Minister Fitzharris.

Minister Fitzharris also said that the ACT Government continues to plan for the future of the city’s road and transport network.

ACT Government representatives will host drop-in information sessions outside the Gungahlin Marketplace for anyone interested in finding out more about Gungahlin’s road projects:

  • Thursday 17 March, 5pm – 7pm
  • Friday 18 March, 10am – 12pm

The ACT Government will also have a stall at the Celebrate Gungahlin Festival on 2 April.
