Veterans’ Advisory Council is looking for new members

Released 15/11/2017

Minister for Veterans, Gordon Ramsay, is seeking expressions of interest from potential new members of the Veterans’ Advisory Council (VAC).

The VAC undertakes research to provide advice to the Australian Capital Territory Government, in addition to promoting the wellbeing of the community. The Council comprises community members with a material interest in issues affecting the veterans’ community in the ACT.

Nominations are being sought from:

  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander veterans or members of the veterans community (including family members of veterans);
  • Veterans’ community members who have particular expertise with issues for family members of veterans, either through their direct experience as a family member of a veteran or in their professional capacity; and
  • Members of the veterans’ community with an interest in issues effecting the community.

Minister Ramsay says the veterans’ community is inclusive of people with a direct link to defence service or a veteran.

“This could include widows, partners, former partners, children, parents, siblings and relatives of ex-servicemen and women, and should not exclude anyone with an evident link to or interest in matters associated with veterans’ welfare or wellbeing.

“The VAC provides a valuable link between me as a Minister, veterans and the veterans’ community, which provides great benefits for us all,” Minister Ramsay said.

Applications are open and will close on 11 December 2017. Further information is available by calling the Office for Veterans and Seniors on 6205 2598, emailing mailto:communityparticipation@act.gov.au or visiting http://www.communityservices.act.gov.au/wac/ageing/councils
