Over $922,000 funding for arts projects in 2018

Released 20/10/2017

Minister for the Arts and Community Events Gordon Ramsay today announced the artists and organisations that will receive support for arts projects as part of the 2018 ACT Arts Fund Project funding.

“48 artists, arts groups and community organisations across all art forms will be sharing in more than $765,000 in arts project funding, exceeding the $750,000 funding promised ion the Budget,” Minister Ramsay said.

“In addition to the arts project funding, three organisations will share in $42,000 to support music concerts and activities at Llewellyn Hall, to ensure that Canberra musicians and audiences have access to this great concert venue.

“We expect to have an additional $90,000 available for screen projects in 2018. Applications are now open and applications close at 5pm Monday 6 November 2017. This, plus a total pool of $25,000 in out-of-round funding, brings grants in 2018 to an anticipated total of $922,373,” Minister Ramsay said.

“I am pleased with the range of applications that have been funded this year, spanning both emerging and established artists, as well as community art projects that provide Canberrans with an opportunity to participate in the arts.  The assessment panel praised the quality and creativity of the ideas put forward, and were inspired by the vibrancy and strength of our arts community.”

The 2018 arts project funding will support artists and organisations including:

  • Canberra Dance Theatre to produce a work for their 40th birthday celebrations
  • Tania McCartney to write and illustrate a junior fiction book series
  • Dionysus Movement to develop and tour ACT performers to the New Zealand Fringe.
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth writing workshop ‘Blak Writes’ co-ordinated by Hayley McQuire

“The arts are integral to Canberra’s social fabric and economic development. Art strengthens our community and is an essential part of our identity as a vibrant, culturally rich and diverse city.

“We know that Canberrans are strong supporters of the arts.  Through this year’s Project funding, we will have even more opportunities to experience and engage with local arts and artists.”
