Official opening of Hume Motor Vehicle Inspection Station

Released 25/07/2017

Local and national transport industry stakeholders joined the Minister for Regulatory Services, Gordon Ramsay, in putting their mark on the transport mural as part of the official opening of the new Hume Motor Vehicle Inspection Station.

As part of the opening celebrations, industry stakeholders viewed vehicle exhibits and inspection demonstrations, as well as participating in behind the scenes tours of facilities to further understand the work of mechanics and inspectors in keeping our roads safe.

Minister Ramsay worked alongside industry on the mural to officially open the new facility and was pleased to learn more about the important work Access Canberra inspectors do in supporting vehicle safety.

“The diversity of those who attended the opening – from our Emergency Services and the Australian Federal Police, to disability modification vehicle engineers, and local and national heavy vehicle groups – shows the wide impact our services have to our community,” Minister Ramsay said.

“The community can feel justifiably proud that these facilities will meet Canberra’s needs well into the future.”

The new inspection station replaces the old Dickson Motor Vehicle Inspection Station, which closed in May 2017.  Located at 29 Couranga Crescent in Hume, the new inspection station:

  • has state of the art facilities making heavy vehicle inspections easier and faster;
  • the capability to do multiple bookings in different lanes – this was not possible at Dickson; and
  • supports the inspection of larger combination vehicles without disconnecting each unit as was the case in Dickson.

All vehicle inspections must be booked in advance by ringing Access Canberra on 13 22 81 and, to support easier and faster transactions, electronic payments only are accepted.
