More than 1000 driver licences renewed online so far

Released 04/10/2017

Just one month after online driver renewal became available over 1000 Canberrans have renewed their licences, Minister for Regulatory Services Gordon Ramsay announced today.

“Canberrans are increasingly seeing the convenience of transacting online with more and more people doing business with government via the Access Canberra website each day,” Minister Ramsay said.

“The five year driver licence renewal option is proving popular with most Canberrans able to renew by simply going online, with a new photo not needed to be taken.

“People are enjoying the flexibility of being able to renew their driver licence from the comfort of their homes, at any time of the day or night, with their new licence arriving in the mail a couple of weeks later,” Minister Ramsay said.

“Digital driver licence renewals are just one example of how Access Canberra’s service delivery model is adapting to meeting the needs of the community.”

Minister Ramsay encouraged the community to take advantage of the online transactions with Access Canberra Service Centres and the phone Contact Centre typically experiencing spikes in demand after a long weekend.

“We find many Canberrans make the trip into a Service Centre, hassle to find a park and queue when they can simply visit www.act.gov.au/accessCBR and complete the transaction in a matter of minutes.

Popular online transactions include:

  • · car registration renewals
  • · working with vulnerable people renewals
  • · payment of rates
  • · myway card recharge.
