Joint media release: Gordon Ramsay MLA and Meegan Fitzharris MLA

With the ACT Government undertaking the largest infrastructure project in the territory’s history through the light rail network, further investment will be made in the upcoming 2017-18 ACT Budget to improve safety during the construction of stage one.

“The Light rail network is the biggest infrastructure project in the ACT’s history and will support hundreds of jobs during the construction phase”, Minister for Transport and City Services Meegan Fitzharris said.

“The network will transform our city and we want to ensure the work is completed as safely as possible for the workers involved and the community.”

Three additional WorkSafe inspectors will be employed in 2017-18 to ensure the Territory’s rigorous safety standards on worksites are adhered to throughout the project.

“The importance of this project and the unique nature of the construction required a proactive approach to regulatory oversight of work safety. This investment in the 2017-18 Budget is a further demonstration of our commitment to the work safety and efficient delivery of our commitments,” said Minister for Regulatory Services Gordon Ramsay.

The 2017-18 ACT Budget will see the Government delivering on the commitments we took to the 2016 election on the areas that matter most to Canberrans. We will invest in better health care through our 10-year health plan, better schools for our children and better services for our suburbs, while making the right investments to renew our city and maintain a strong local economy.
