ACT Minister for Veterans, Gordon Ramsay, today paid tribute to the men and women who have served our nation and remembered the fallen at a number of events, including the National Anzac Day Ceremony at the Australian War Memorial.

“Anzac Day is a time to commemorate and reflect. We must never forget the contribution those that have served have made,” Minister Ramsay said.

“For over a century, men and women from across the country have come together in armed service for Australia. Many of them lost their lives.  On Anzac Day we remember and recognise the sacrifices they and their families made for our nation.”

“This Anzac Day, we thank the men and women who serve and have served.  We honour those whose names we may not personally know, but whose courage remains an inspiration.

“The nation’s capital plays an important role on Anzac Day and the occasion has always been recognised by the people of Canberra. I would like to thank the many thousands of Canberrans and those who travelled from interstate to pay their respects this morning.

“Canberra has a particularly strong community of both currently serving defence force personnel and separated veterans, who contribute enormously to both this city and our country.

“Our veterans are a real asset to the Canberra community. Their level of dedication to service, during which they may be called to pay the highest price, must never be understated.

“Lest we forget.”
