Master Plan for Curtin Group Centre in final stages

Released 12/04/2018

The Curtin Group Centre Master Plan is a step closer following the release of changes to the draft master plan for community comment, said Minister for Planning and Land Management Mick Gentleman.

“The community panel process, held from July to November last year, has greatly helped with developing a way forward to finalising the Curtin Group Centre Master Plan,” Minister Gentleman said.

“I am delighted to be able to release the outcomes from the community panel process and the final stage of community engagement on changes to the draft master plan. This next stage of engagement will ensure the finalisation of the master plan for the Curtin centre,” Minister Gentleman said.

Consideration of the master plan has included key issues raised by the community including the bulk and scale of the buildings and the community use of the public areas, including retention of sunlight to the existing central courtyard. The revisions to the draft plan also include improvements to the pedestrian and cycle networks and changes to the internal road network.

“The ACT Government has weighed up these issues and arrived at an approach that provides a range of positive outcomes for the Curtin community,” Minister Gentleman said.

“The changes to the draft master plan reflect a greater priority to the group centre, open space, the value of the courtyard as a hub, scale of future development and an understanding of the economics of investment in the area.

“While not everyone may agree with all elements of the revised draft master plan, these changes represent a balanced approach for the long term vision for Curtin. These changes will provide an opportunity for future growth that supports local businesses and ensures that the centre continues to be a place that the community can enjoy,” Minister Gentleman concluded.
