Firefighters promoted to Station Officers

Released 17/08/2018

Today I congratulated nine ACT Fire & Rescue (ACTF&R) senior firefighters on their promotion to the rank of Station Officer at a graduation ceremony held at the Canberra Fire Museum.

The Station Officers - who must have a minimum of seven years’ experience as a firefighter - have successfully completed an intensive eight-week development program.

This program has equipped them to lead their colleagues and protect the community in a diverse range of emergency situations.

A Station Officer’s role includes the day-to-day management of a fire station, providing leadership to fire crews during all types of fire and rescue incidents, as well as assisting with the inspection of properties for compliance with building codes.

Being an ACT Fire Station Officer is both demanding and challenging. I commend each of the graduates for successfully meeting the high standards set by ACTF&R to reach this rank.

ACTF&R has some of the best response times in the country and the commitment and passion every firefighter has to their job is truly admirable.

The ACT Government continues to support our ACTF&R services through investment not only in more personnel, but in the equipment they need to ensure our services remain the best in the country even as our city grows.
