Released 15/05/2018

The ACT Emergency Services Agency today recognised 19 volunteer firefighters for their commitment and service to the ACT Rural Fire Service (RFS).

Minister for Police and Emergency Services Mick Gentleman joined ACTRFS Chief Officer Joe Murphy at the ceremony and thanked all of the award recipients for volunteering their time to protecting the ACT community.

“These volunteers have served with diligence and distinction, accumulating more than 300 years of service between them which is a fantastic achievement,” Minister Gentleman said.

“I acknowledge and thank the families, partners and loved ones of the award recipients for their continued support and the sacrifices they have made in allowing the award and medal recipients to serve our community,” he said.

Four members received the Chief Officer’s Diligent Service Award for going beyond the call of duty in their role as a volunteer.

As well as these outstanding contributions, members were recognised for their length of service and good conduct.

  • Three members received a 30-year Long Service Medal
  • Seven members received a 20-year Long Service Medal
  • Nine members received a 10-year long service Medal.

“It’s wonderful to see so many of our volunteers receiving recognition for their years of dedication and service; it is a clear indication that volunteering is alive and well within the ACTRFS,” Minister Gentleman concluded.
