New members appointed to the ACT Heritage Council

Minister for the Environment and Heritage Mick Gentleman today announced that the ACT Heritage Council will be getting a fresh new look this year with the appointment of four new committee members, who will help recognise and conserve our region’s rich heritage.

“I am excited to welcome new faces to the ACT Heritage Council, who will join returning members in serving our community over the next three years,” Minister Gentleman said.

“The ACT Heritage Council plays an important role in identifying, and looking after places and objects of heritage significance in Canberra, and is made up of community representatives and experts from a range of fields.

“They also provide advice on developments to ensure heritage values are protected and work closely with the community to promote our rich local heritage.

“The new appointees bring strong experience in their fields of expertise to the role as well as a background in heritage conservation and planning.”

The new appointments are:

  • Ms Rachael Jackson, expert in architecture
  • Dr Ken Heffernan, expert in archaeology
  • Professor Nicholas Brown, expert in history
  • Ms Tooey Elliot, representative for the property ownership, management and development sector

“In addition to the new members we will also see Mr Doug Williams, an expert in archaeology, reappointed for a second term,” Minister Gentleman said.

“Consisting of nine appointees, the council’s continuing members include Mr David Flannery (Chair), Dr Dianne Firth (Deputy Chair), Mr Phil Nizette and Mr Gary Shipp.

“I thank the outgoing members of the Heritage Council for their contribution to our community and dedication to heritage conservation in the ACT. I wish them well in their future endeavors,” Minister Gentleman concluded.
