Become part of the ACT Place Names Committee

Released 13/06/2017

Minister for Planning and Land Management Mick Gentleman today announced the opening of expressions of interest to join the ACT Place Names Committee.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for Canberrans to become part of the committee that provides advice and recommendations to the ACT Government on the naming of new suburbs, roads and other public places such as parks,” Minister Gentleman said.

“The current committee was involved in the naming of Malcolm Fraser Bridge and the suburbs of Strathnairn and Macnamara, as well as streets within the new suburbs of Gungahlin and Molonglo Valley, including Throsby, Moncrieff and Denman Prospect ,” Minister Gentleman said.

“The committee also consults with the Canberra National Memorials Committee in regard to the naming of public places on designated national land.

“Committee membership is a voluntary position, and successful applicants are appointed for a three year term. Ideal candidates for membership should have strong backgrounds in Australian history, local heritage and Indigenous or multicultural affairs,” Minister Gentleman concluded.
