ACTSES embarks on biggest recruitment process yet

Released 25/07/2017

Minister for Police and Emergency Services Mick Gentleman today welcomed the single biggest recruitment of volunteers to the ACT State Emergency Service (ACTSES).

“This is a tremendous boost in numbers to the ACTSES, with 59 new members to commence training shortly,” Minister Gentleman said.

The recruits will undergo induction training (respect, equity and diversity, team building and interpersonal skills training) before starting with their role specific training including first aid, radio communications, asbestos awareness and storm and water damage.

“These new recruits will be trained across multiple roles, and will continue the amazing work the ACTSES already carries out in our community,” Minister Gentleman said.

“The ACTSES are always ready to come to the community’s aid whenever it’s needed. Whether it is a storm, flood or assisting other emergency services or community groups they’re always there, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year,” Minister Gentleman said.

“The ACTSES has responded to 2512 calls for help since July last year. This includes a number of significant storms in October, February and March.

“To all ACTSES volunteers, I thank you on behalf of the ACT Government and Canberra community for all that you do to keep us safe. I also wish the new recruits the best of luck for the training and subsequent careers with the ACTSES,” Minister Gentleman concluded.

The successful recruits are scheduled to graduate in early July this year ahead of the ACT storm season which will start shortly after.
