Rally enthusiasts flock to Canberra

Today Member for Brindabella, Mick Gentleman will represent the Chief Minister at the launch of the 2016 National Capital Rally, which will see over 50 competitors and thousands of spectators over the three day event.

The event which will run between Friday the 26th and Sunday the 29th of May, will commence with a ceremonial start at Westside action park at 4pm on Friday. Ensuring spectators can get a good view of the Rally’s competing cars and crews before all the action starts.

“As an avid rally enthusiast, it is great to see the rally back for the fourth time since it returned to Canberra as a Centenary celebration in March 2013. The event provides an opportunity for Canberrans to see world-class motorsport in their own backyard, and also shows that there is more to Canberra than just our national institutions,” Minister Gentleman said.

As an Ex competitor Minister Gentleman discussed the great gravel roads located around Canberra that will be used by the national field of competitors in a wide range of vehicles.

“One of the great positives of rallies is that they show off the ability of a wide range of vehicles, from classics like Datsun 1600’s to new all wheel drive Subaru’s and Mitsubishi’s. I strongly recommend all those who have never been to a rally in Canberra before to get down and see the action this weekend. “I would like to take the opportunity to congratulate the Brindabella Motorsport Club, the Australian Rally Commission and event partners and sponsors for bringing the event back to Canberra. Events such as the National Capital Rally generate economic activity and provide an important boost for our tourism industry,” Minister Gentleman concluded.
