Latest news on planning achievements in the ACT

Released 13/04/2016

Today the Minister for Planning and Land Management Mick Gentleman announced the launch of the ACT Government’s new quarterly Statement of Planning Intent Newsletter.

“This new community newsletter is designed to keep Canberrans informed about the work the ACT Government is doing to implement my Statement of Planning Intent. Released in 2015, the Statement provides a long term vision for the direction of the planning and growth of the ACT over the next five years,” Minister Gentleman said.

“The Statement of Planning Intent was developed with significant input from the Canberra community, industry and researchers and aims to provide a road map to help our city become a more sustainable, compact, accessible, inclusive and dynamic environment both now and into the future.

“The inaugural (April) edition of the Statement of Planning Intent Newsletter includes a report on a new dynamic guide to community gardens in the ACT. This guide provides advice to community organisations wanting to set up new community gardens.

“It also includes information about exciting new approaches to developing and sharing planning ideas, including using virtual 3D models and innovative place making processes to support hands-on community involvement in the planning of quality public spaces and streets” said Minister Gentleman.

The Statement of Planning Intent sets out four planning priority areas which include:

  • Creating sustainable, compact and liveable neighbourhoods with better transport options
  • Delivering high quality public spaces and streets through place making
  • Delivering an outcome-focused planning system to reward design excellence and innovation
  • Engaging with the community, business and research sectors to optimise planning outcomes.

“I encourage everyone in the Canberra community to keep an eye out for this informative newsletter,” Minister Gentleman said today.

The Statement of Planning Intent Newsletter will be distributed through EPD’s website, their online interactive engagement platform, http://haveyoursay.planning.act.gov.au, Twitter, Facebook and the online version of Our Canberra Community Newsletter.
