Landscape architectural work celebrated at awards night

The city’s quality of design in and around urban environments will tonight be commended and celebrated at the 2016 ACT Landscape Architecture Awards.

“The Landscape Architecture Awards are a fantastic way to acknowledge the importance of landscape architecture in the planning of urban renewal and how it influences how people live, work and play in their cities,” Minister Gentleman said.

A number of awards will be presented including civic landscape, parks and open space, infrastructure, cultural heritage, urban design, research, policy and communication and communities.

“Quality design and planning are not just what makes Canberra so liveable, good design is also good business. It is the secret to making the city future proof for the challenges we face in confronting economic and environmental sustainability.

“At the same time quality design and planning improves quality of life. Good design is a major driver of what makes our city a uniquely attractive tourism, education, and business destination.”Minister Gentleman said.

The ACT Government is committed to investing in planning for the landscape and supporting the design and built environment professions.

The Government and the planning portfolio have an ambitious program to drive economic growth and prosperity of the ACT into the future.

“I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the valuable contribution the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects has made to the quality of landscape architecture and public domain of our city. This in turn ensures architectural excellence throughout the ACT.” Minister Gentleman concluded.
