Minister for Planning and Land Management Mick Gentleman today participate in the renaming ceremony of the Canberra Kart Racing Club Karting circuit to Circuit Mark Webber.

“The renaming of the Canberra Kart Racing Club’s circuit after 2015 FIA World Endurance Champion and former Grand Prix driver Mark Webber is an opportunity to honour a local hero and role model for young Canberrans and I was honoured to be a part of today’s ceremony, along-side Marks parents Dianne and Alan,” Minister Gentleman said.

The Canberra Kart Racing Club (CKRC) has a long history of providing recreational karting facilities to the Canberra community and is in the process of upgrading their facilities through the development of a Circuit Mark Webber Master Plan with the aim of becoming Australia’s premier international level kart racing facility.

“The ACT Government is proud to have supported this collaborative project by providing two grants  totalling $143,000, since 2012,” said Minister Gentleman.

“The success of the CKRC’s circuit upgrade work is reflected in their hosting, this weekend of the NSW State Title Championship event with up to 200 drivers, plus their crews and families expected to attend, resulting in a significant economic boost to the Canberra community. “The Circuit Mark Webber upgrade will provide future opportunities for tourism and economic growth in the ACT and greater access for the Canberra community to get involved in this exciting sport,” Minister Gentleman concluded.
