Released 25/07/2017

Minister for Planning and Land Management Mick Gentleman today attended the Agricultural Minister’s forum in Auckland, New Zealand.

'Today's Agricultural Ministers meeting saw a holistic approach taken to address issues of bio-security, sustainable production, addressing climate change and also working cooperatively to eradicate emerging threats including fire ants and on biological control of invasive species - like Carp in the Murray Darling basin.

"It was excellent to have the opportunity to meet with other ministers from around Australia and learn, share experience and collaborate with the New Zealand Government.” Minister Gentleman said.

“Over two days we were able to hear of innovative approaches to partnering with industry to really get value uplift to production and harvesting methods across seafood, forestry, and wine production, teamed with a science based approach to develop exciting areas of plant and food research.” Minister Gentleman added.

“Like the ACT is in Australia, New Zealand is small compared to its global competitors, but they have achieved much by being smarter to achieve results - capitalising on innovation to grow its economy. It shows that Australian states and territories are thinking and working collaboratively on big picture issues affecting us and our regional neighbours and not purely on farm gate profits.” Minister Gentleman concluded.
