$343,000 awarded for local heritage projects

Released 24/08/2016

Conservation of local heritage has been assisted today with the announcement of more than $343,000 in ACT Heritage Grants Program funds awarded by Minister for Planning, Mick Gentleman.

“Successful applicants from a diverse range of projects covering Aboriginal, natural and built heritage, addressed the main criteria of how their endeavour will benefit the heritage of the ACT,” Minister Gentleman said.

This year the government has funded conservation works to a number of heritage listed properties, oral histories, and interpretive signage to name a few.

“A number of the ACT Heritage Grants are community projects that foster effective partnerships to conserve the ACT’s unique heritage.” Minister Gentleman said.

The ACT Heritage Grants Program is an annual funding program administered by the ACT Government. It is the primary source of funding that assists individuals and community organisations to record, conserve and celebrate the history and heritage of the ACT.

The announcement of the successful grants was held at Ainslie Primary School in Braddon, which this year received an ACT Heritage Grant of $9,940 to conduct an oral history program in the lead up to its 90th anniversary.

“The Heritage Grants Program demonstrates the strong commitment of the ACT Government to work in partnership with the community.  It illustrates the promotion, protection and conservation of the diverse heritage of the ACT,” Minister Gentleman concluded.
