Autumn prescribed burn program: Wednesday 14 March

Released 14/03/2018

The ACT Parks and Conservation Service wishes to update the community on the latest planned prescribed burns being conducted to reduce fire fuel loads and to improve ecosystem health.

Wednesday 14 March 2018

A number of prescribed burns currently being conducted will continue today. These are burns at Piccadilly and Potter’s Hill in Namadgi National Park.

Depending on weather conditions the following burns are planned for today, Wednesday 14 March:

  • Cook wildflower 4 hectare burn: west of the Cook Cycle Path, off Bindubi Street, Cook
  • Aranda spine 1 hectare burn: south of Walu Street to the Aranda Houses Fire Trail
  • Fairfax 2 hectare burn: north of Fairfax Street and east of Dryandra Street, O’Connor
  • Crace Grasslands restoration 12 hectare burn: Crace Grasslands Nature Reserve, corner of Gungahlin Drive and Barton Highway, Mitchell.

ACT Parks and Conservation is reminding the community to please keep well clear of burn sites for their safety as well as that of the firefighters working on site. Smoke from the prescribed burns can cover roads and obscure vision making driving dangerous.

ACT Parks and Conservation Services would like to thank ACT Health, ACT Fire and Rescue, ACT Emergency Services Authority, ACT Ambulance Service, ACT State Emergency Service and ACT Rural Fire Service for their combined team efforts over the past week as well as our neighbours – NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service and the NSW Rural Fire Service.

See the location map of all the burn sites.
