Autumn prescribed burn program: Monday 12 March 2018

Released 13/03/2018

The ACT Parks and Conservation Service wishes to update the community on the latest planned prescribed burns being conducted to reduce fire fuel loads and to improve ecosystem health.

Monday 12 March 2018

A number of prescribed burns currently being conducted will continue tomorrow. These are prescribed burns at Blue Range, Piccadilly and Potter’s Hill in Namadgi National Park.

Access to Corin Forest, Woods Reserve, Square Rock Walking Trail and Gibraltar Falls will not be affected.

The following burns will also be conducted:

  • A 10 hectare prescribed burn at Oakey Hill, East of the Tuggeranong Parkway
  • A 4 hectare prescribed burn off Bindubi St, Cook

Smoke from these burns could impact nearby suburbs. For tips on how to stay safe if there is smoke in the area, visit the Asthma Foundation website.

The community are reminded to please keep well clear of burn sites for their safety as well as that of the firefighters working on site. Smoke from the prescribed burns can cover roads and obscure vision making driving dangerous.

ACT Parks and Conservation Services would like to thank ACT Fire and Rescue, ACT Emergency Services Authority, ACT Ambulance Service and ACT Rural Fire Service for their combined team efforts over the past week as well as our neighbours – NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service and the NSW Rural Fire Service.

See the location map of all the burn sites.
