Conversation about Gungahlin planning still active

Released 24/03/2017

The ACT Government is continuing to keep the conversation open about Gungahlin Town Centre Planning Refresh given the high level of involvement in engagement to date.

“The Gungahlin Town Centre is a thriving place, attracting new residents, business and investment at a great rate and the planning refresh has been an opportunity to talk about planning for Gungahlin’s future,” Gary Rake Deputy Director-General of the Environment, Planning and Sustainable Development Directorate said.

“To date we have received 586 surveys responses and 258 quick poll replies. It’s fantastic that the Gungahlin community is actively participating in this conversation. The planning refresh won’t impact works that are currently underway, but it has opened up a community conversation around a number of key issues including building height and character, public places, walking, cycling and road transport,” Mr Rake said.

“Works in the Gungahlin Town Centre are well underway and this consultation is an opportunity to look at how future planning will connect with the growth of the area.

“Construction on the light rail project will see a lot of activity throughout Gungahlin seeing changes to the Gungahlin Town Centre starting in April 2017.

“We want to hear from the Gungahlin community and in refreshing the planning framework will also look at new Government initiatives around urban renewal, healthy weight, active travel and climate change adaptation.

“The consultation is open until Friday 14 April with a number of opportunities for the community to have their say. The community is encouraged to get in involved and take part in the conversation to share ideas and thoughts for Gungahlin’s future. All engagement activities will be featured on the ACT Government’s community engagement website - www.yoursay.act.gov.au

“The Government is keen for community feedback on how planning can help the town centre continue to prosper and grow,” Mr Rake said.
