Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve closed due to safety concerns

Released 10/10/2016

The ACT Government wishes to advise that Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve has been closed today due to predicted windy conditions. The Visitor’s Centre remains open.

With much of the ground in the reserve still sodden from recent rains, today’s strong wind forecast greatly increases the risk of falling trees.

This increased risk has prompted the ACT Government to temporarily close the reserve as a precautionary measure in the interests of public safety.

Today’s closure follows the government’s decision last Thursday to close all ACT reserve campgrounds after a near miss when a tree fell on an unoccupied tent at the Blue Range campground.

The Majura Pines recreation area, including the mountain bike trails, remains closed until Monday 31 October 2016.
