Take a holiday from the everyday with an ACT Ranger

Released 23/09/2016

This school holidays why not take a break from the humdrum by meeting some local koalas, having some morning billy tea and damper or going on a hunt for the Long-nosed Potoroo?

These are just three of the ranger-led activities happening out at the Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve this week says Brett McNamara, Regional Manager of the ACT Parks and Conservation Service.

“The spring school holidays are a great time to visit Canberra’s favourite nature reserve where an action packed schedule of activities has been organised as part of the Explore program,” Mr McNamara said.

“While the program has a focus on activities at Tidbinbilla there are many other ranger led activities happening all over the Bush Capital.

“On top of their popular free forest walks, the National Arboretum is holding a series of Bonsai workshops for 8 – 16 year olds from 24 September to 9 October.

“If you prefer a walk on the dark side why not try a night walk in Mulligans Flat Woodland Sanctuary? Suitable for 12 year olds and up, the walk takes you inside the predator-proof fence, where native animals such as bettongs are thriving in the absence of foxes and feral cats.

“Another popular walk is Bush Treasures at the Jerrabomberra Wetlands where you can team up with a ranger for a tour around the wetlands, collecting a variety of materials to make a brilliant masterpiece. Suitable for ages 5 – 13 years.

“Spring is a great time to get out and about, exploring the great outdoors here in Canberra. Locals and visitors alike are fortunate to have so many activities available on our doorstep," Mr McNamara concluded.

Many of the activities mentioned above require bookings. Some activities also have an associated cost.
