Canberrans are invited to attend free Actsmart workshops in August that will provide tips on keeping their homes warm this winter, Director-General of the Environment and Planning Directorate, Dorte Ekelund, said today.

Ms Ekelund said that four free home energy advice workshops will be held across Canberra during August.

“I encourage Canberra residents to take advantage of these Actsmart workshops, which have been designed to show residents how to keep warm, save money and reduce their carbon footprint on the environment,” Ms Ekelund said.

Interested in DIY?

Draught proofing is one of the easiest ways to reduce your energy bills and the DIY Draught Proofing Workshop will teach you some simple draught proofing techniques to help you plug the cracks and gaps in your house to stop warm air escaping in winter.

Keen on saving money and reducing your power bills?

The Heating Your Home Without Breaking the Bank Workshop will provide you with a range of tips on heating your home efficiently and reducing the size of your power bills.

Want to install solar panels but not sure about the process?

The Understanding Solar Workshop will provide you with everything you need to know about both solar hot water and solar photovoltaic (PV) systems.  At its conclusion you should be able to make a more informed decision on the best option for your home.

What is the star rating system and how can you reduce household energy use?

The Introduction to Energy Efficiency Workshop will help you understand how saving energy in the home can be done through a mixture of behaviour change and increasing the efficiency of your house and household appliances.
