Six appointments to the Natural Resource Management Advisory Committee (NRMAC) were announced today by Director-General of the Environment and Planning Directorate, Ms Dorte Ekelund.
The NRMAC provides advice to the Minister and Directorate on complex and dynamic environmental and social issues related to natural resource management. Committee members are appointed on the basis of their expertise in various natural resource management topics.
Ms Ekelund welcomed Dr Fiona Dyer as a new member of the committee starting 1 July 2016.
"Dr Dyer is a freshwater scientist with expertise in freshwater systems, flow ecology relationships, river restoration and water resource management. She is also Chair of the Upper Murrumbidgee Catchment Coordinating Committee, a community based group involved in natural resource management in the upper Murrumbidgee catchment," Ms Ekelund said.
"I would also like to thank Dr Rosemary Purdie who is retiring as a committee member.
"Dr Purdie has been a member of the NRMAC since its establishment in 2002 and I would like to thank her for her valuable contribution especially in the areas of botany, plant ecology, threatened species and ecosystem health.
"I would also like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the work of all committee members over the last three years, especially their contribution in the policy arena.
"The committee provided advice on the management of significant pest animals in the urban and rural environments including input into the Best Practice Management Guide for Rabbits in the ACT. It also provided input into future strategies for biodiversity under climate change and has significantly contributed to the review of the Nature Conservation Act and its final design," Ms Ekelund said.
