Released 18/05/2012

17 May 2012

Canberrans are being invited to the Land Development Agency's (LDA) inaugural free community event at Kingston Foreshore on Saturday 19 May 2012 from 3 till 6.30pm.

Part of the Canberra International Music Festival, this twilight event is in the award winning Norgrove Park in the heart of Kingston Foreshore and will showcase a mix of international and local jazz, Latin and World Music.

Performers include Turkish World Music super star Omar Faruk Tekbilek, local Latin rock, reggae and samba band Los Chavos, and internationally renowned jazz band Wanderlust featuring one of Australia's best trumpeters and composers, Miroslav Bukovsky.

Those attending will also be able to view the illuminated eco pond, wander through the 2,500m2 wetlands, sample delicious international food, and warm up with traditional mulled wine.

They can also visit the Chai Latte Lounge and enjoy a chai latte, or a range of coffees and other hot beverages, and the Garden Bar, where a wide variety of food will be served under a vine canopy with cocktail style seating. Both venues will be heated.

A wide range of market stalls will also feature arts and craft from Canberra and the surrounding region.

"The LDA is committed to building vibrant communities with neighbourhood safety and environmental awareness at the forefront," said David Dawes, the LDA Chief Executive Officer.

"The whole event will be powered by green energy and Recycled Greenseats® will be available for seating by the main stage. Bike racks will also be available.

"Kingston Foreshore will become an increasingly popular place with both locals and visitors and I encourage Canberrans to take this opportunity to speak with the LDA staff and learn more about the current work and the future vision for the Kingston Foreshore Precinct."

Kingston Foreshore residents will also be able to register their details at the LDA tent enabling them to stay in touch with future community events and activities.
