Support for community-based environmental projects

Released 02/09/2016

Ten projects will share in $185,000 as part of the 2016-17 ACT Environment Grants Program, Minister for the Environment and Climate Change Simon Corbell announced today.

“These projects will make an important contribution to nature conservation in the ACT and strengthen local community-based efforts to improve environmental outcomes in our region,” Mr Corbell said.

“This year’s grants were awarded to projects that will focus on landscape restoration, indigenous engagement and education, and biodiversity and native habitat enhancement, which are important priorities for nature conservation in the ACT.”

The ACT Environment Grants Program has provided financial assistance for community-based environmental projects since 1997.

“Once again we had strong interest from the community who want to make a difference in their patch which is what makes this program such a success,” Mr Corbell said.

“I look forward to hearing about how the successful projects progress over the next 12 months.”
