Remuneration Tribunal determinations for members of the judiciary and part-time holders of public office

The ACT Remuneration Tribunal has released Determinations covering:

  • the Judiciary of the ACT Supreme Court;
  • the Judiciary of the ACT Magistrates Court;
  • the ACT Director of Public Prosecutions;
  • the office holders of the ACT Civil and Administrative Tribunal;
  • Part- time Holders of Public Office

At its Spring Review, the Tribunal awarded a general increase to the rate of payment for Part-Time Holders of Public Office of 2.5%.

The Tribunal continues to consider relevant matters resulting from submissions received following the release of its discussion paper in May 2016: Review of Remuneration, Allowances and Other Entitlements for Part-time Public Office Holders in the ACT Government. The Tribunal intends to release a Final Report on the review in early 2017
The Tribunal was mindful of the current economic and financial considerations facing the ACT and as outlined by the Chief Minister in his government submission. ACT Treasury provided a comprehensive briefing to the Tribunal on the prevailing economic circumstances for 2016 and forecasts for the coming years.

The Tribunal has postponed decisions relating to the allowances of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and the base remuneration of the Associate Judge of the Supreme Court. The Tribunal noted that the Australian Government Remuneration Tribunal expects to finalise its annual review into judicial positions by the end of 2016.

The Tribunal awarded a 2.5% increase to judicial positions of the ACT Magistrates Court.
