Ms Burch said the ACT Government-funded $1.5 million upgrade would allow the YWCA to continue to provide support, youth services, training and advocacy to the people in Tuggeranong,
"The refurbishment of the Centre includes a community café, a dedicated food service shop, a new community meeting room, storage and a garage for the community bus," Ms Burch said.
"The ACT Government is committed to building strong and inclusive communities by providing programs and services to assist and support community growth and development.
"We have contributed $30,000 to the YWCA to establish the food service shop at the Lanyon Centre."
The food service shop will provide an outlet for food from Foodbank in Sydney to be distributed to low income families and the provision of an improved kitchen will allow the YWCA to establish a social café which will act as a training facility for young people.
The YWCA operates a range of services from the Mura Lanyon Youth and Community Centre including community development, youth services, housing support, family support, training as well as advocacy and organisational support.
"The Mura Lanyon Community Centre has served the community well through the delivery of activities and services that have encouraged and nourished community growth.
"The refurbishment of this centre will allow the YWCA to continue to provide such supportive services to people in the Tuggeranong area."
