School Traffic Safety Upgrades

Released 27/06/2012

Minister for Education and Training Dr Chris Bourke says half-a-million dollars worth of school traffic safety upgrades are about to begin at government primary schools across Canberra.

Work will start from the end of this month at Fraser Primary, Southern Cross Early Childhood School, Curtin Primary and Weetangera Primary.

Parents who are dropping off students will see more set down and pick up safety areas.

They will also enjoy improved traffic flow planning through school car parks.

The schools will also have a range of new features including traffic bollards, more overflow and parking spaces, and new surfacing and signage.

The new car park at Red Hill School is also nearing completion and will be handed over to the school for the start of Term 3.

Compared to the ACT Liberal's bizarre 'more flashing lights' campaign these improvements build on previous traffic improvements across Canberra, and will actually improve traffic safety and amenity for students, parents and teachers.
