ACT Public Secondary Schools Open Nights Begin

Released 30/04/2012

I am pleased to announce that the open nights for ACT public secondary schools including high schools and colleges begin this week.

ACT public secondary schools are highly regarded for the innovative opportunities they offer students through academic, cultural, vocational and sporting programs. The open nights provide a fantastic opportunity for parents and students to find out more about the options available.

Through Excellence and Enterprise: Advancing Public Schools of Distinction, the ACT has a framework for a vibrant public education system that engages our students and builds a strong foundation for their future studies, employment and life.

Members of staff are on hand at the open nights to discuss the various programs and opportunities their school has to offer.

College is an especially exciting time in a student's education but it can also be a little daunting to select a program of study for the next two years. Students will be supported by dedicated teachers to develop a program that will help them shape their future. ACT colleges are committed to providing students with learning pathways that will give students access to the many opportunities available in the post school world.

Details of the open nights and the Colleges Guide 2013 are on the ACT Education and Training Directorate's website, www.det.act.gov.au. The guide contains important information to help a student on their move to college and into further education, training and the workplace. It also provides an overview of the programs and exciting opportunities offered by our public colleges.

On behalf of the ACT Government, I wish students every success as they embark on the next stage of their studies.
