Love is love at the National Arboretum Canberra

Released 29/03/2018

The Events Terrace at the National Arboretum Canberra is ready to be painted rainbow in April, at a party to celebrate marriage equality at one of our city’s most iconic venues.

This free community event will feature a gourmet barbeque, food stands, live music, free face painting and rainbow kite flying.

Social inclusion is one of this government’s strategic priorities and I’m proud of Canberrans for recording the highest participation and the highest ‘Yes’ vote in the marriage equality postal survey, proving we are the most LGBTIQ-friendly city in Australia.

Attracting and retaining talented people is good for our economy, which is why we will continue to recognise and celebrate the full diversity of our community with inclusive symbols such as the rainbow flag.

One lucky couple will have the chance to win a free two hour marriage ceremony package, in the spectacular Margaret Whitlam Pavilion featuring floor to ceiling glass windows, and a private balcony with stunning views across Canberra.

This competition is open to anyone who can legally marry – just enter online by stating in 25 words or less why you want to get married at the National Arboretum Canberra.

I will announce the winner at the Arboretum party so please be sure to join us in celebrating our inclusive, growing city. You have until midnight Thursday 12 April to enter and the winner must be present at the event on Saturday 14 April 2018 between 11.00am-11.30am.

Everyone is welcome so bring your friends, family and even those on four legs (on leashes) to help us fill the sky with rainbow kites.

More information on the event and competition (including full terms and conditions) is available from the Arboretum’s website.
