ACT to participate in Prime Minister’s US delegation

Released 22/02/2018

The ACT will join a Washington delegation of Australian government and business leaders to open new opportunities for Australia’s economy.

The Prime Minister will lead the Australian delegation and has invited State and Territory Leaders join him at the National Governor’s Association Winter Meeting to build stronger partnerships between Australian and US state-level governments.

The major focus for the ACT delegation will be furthering higher education and research partnerships. Higher education is Canberra’s largest export and an area of significant growth for our economy (increasing 25% in 2016-17 alone).

The ACT delegation will also be connecting with various branches of the Smithsonian museums in Washington, to further opportunities for cultural exchange.

Other areas of focus will include the space industry, tourism investment, aviation, renewable energy and science.

Connecting Canberra to the world through our International Engagement Strategy is already delivering results for the Territory economy, with ACT companies landing significant export contracts.

The estimated cost of the Chief Minister office’s participation in the Prime Minister’s delegation is approximately $38,000. The final cost will be released as part of the regular travel reports.
