ACT Health has officially taken up residence in its contemporary office space in Woden, a move designed to support the Woden Town Centre after a number of Federal Government agencies left the area.
Minister for Mental Health Shane Rattenbury and I toured the office building at 2-6 Bowes Street in Woden today, taking in a building which can accommodate up to 750 administration staff.
The ACT Government is committed to supporting all our town centres. The relocation of ACT Health will provide local small businesses with more weekday trade – encouraging greater renewal of the area.
The relocation of ACT Health and Access Canberra staff, along with the Government’s decision on Stage two of light rail linking the city to Woden, the ACT’s Government’s investment in Phillip Oval and our investment in the Woden Bus Interchange highlights our commitment to Woden.
More than 600 ACT Health staff from non-clinical and administrative functions have now been co-located near the Canberra Hospital campus, which also places the territory’s heath directorate next door to the Australian Government Department of Health – creating Canberra’s new health hub.
“Mental health services are an integral part of broader health service delivery,” Mr Rattenbury said. “In touring the new building today, it was great to see the Mental Health Policy unit co-located with other areas of the business, where innovative and integrated approaches will lead to improved health service delivery.”
