Versailles summer exhibition set to boost tourism sector

Released 25/07/2017

The National Gallery of Australia’s (NGA) summer exhibition Versailles: Treasures from the Palace is expected to draw large numbers of interstate visitors to the capital.

The ACT Government is proud to have invested in this exhibition as part of our ongoing support for the territory’s growing tourism sector. The exhibition opening coincides with the start of Tigerair Australia’s new Canberra-Melbourne daily return flights starting tonight.

I’m also confident that thousands of Canberra art lovers will get along and enjoy this rare exhibition at the NGA over the coming months.

Versailles headlines a busy and diverse summer events calendar that includes A History of the World in 100 Objects at the National Museum of Australia, The Commons Street Feast, Summernats, international cricket and the National Multicultural Festival.

I congratulate the NGA for bringing this exhibition to Canberra as it will have significant benefits for the tourism industry that delivers $2 billion in domestic and international overnight visitation expenditure to the ACT economy and employs 16,400 Canberrans.
